TALKS & DEMONSTRATIONS I have now been giving talks and demonstrations to local organisations and art societies for more than fifteen years. The work I do is considered by many to be therapeautic and has been well received by those who, whilst they are not able to paint or draw particularly well, can, after very little tuition, produce a good picture using materials that they can gather themselves throughout the year as part of the overall process. The process is of course equally useful to more experienced artists to help broaden their existing tehniques and abilities. I have worked with a variety of groups including local primary and secondary schools and am also experienced with disabled and special needs pupils The talk takes a minimum of one hour and can be longer depending on requirements. During the course of the talk I will explain the whole process of creating a mixed media picture and produce, from start to finish, a complete picture to demonstrate the technique. I will also have available a selection of cards and small pictures that anyone who wishes may purchase as an example of my work.
WORKSHOPS During the course of full workshop I will explain the process of collecting and preserving leaves, lichens, grasses and a variety of other useful materials that are easily available on walks in the country or the town and of course from our own gardens. I will point out which species are not suitable for certain processes and also advise on how to 'grow your own' trees, hills and other essential features for use in the finished product. The workshop will cover the following topics: Choice of paper and other basic materials Use of tools and adhesives Creating and preserving colour Which species for which effect Composition Including complimentry processes Presentation and framing of the finished picture Further techniques Duration of the workshop can be half day, full day or split sessions depending on the depth of tuition required. I will bring and supply all necessary materials. In addition, anyone who wishes is welcome to bring their own found objects and materials to include in their picture. Some workshops are split into two sessions to include actually collecting drying and preserving materials and may be based around a visit to an open garden or other suitable sources. Transport and lunch can be included as part of the arrangements. EDUCATION / WORKING WITH SCHOOLCHILDREN Much of my work with chldren is three dimensional. Whilst most children are happy to paint and draw in a traditional way there are few that aren't intrigued by the process of adding either found materials or objects they create themselves for the purpose. I will generally give the children a theme to work to but for thoses who are more comfortable with their own ideas I will advise and guide them to help them produce their own creation. I work in local schools and with educational groups. Also with carnival and festival committees and other local projects and events. Please contact me for more details.
